Imperfect Tides
I stood with my toes on the shore line. Letting the unseasonably cold salt water lap over the tops of my feet, pulling the sand around my heels as the tide was called back to sea. I’d learned to love the feeling of being slowly sucked deeper into the beach as the coast pulled abroad.
It reminded me of you.
How you’d reemerge in my life, softly. Periodically, but never in perfect timing. Staying only long enough for me to grow comfortable in your presence before you’d slip away again.
Drawing me desperately into you as you drift off.

Look at you, sneaking up with an emotional gut-punch in under 150 words. Rude. And very, very good!
